If you can find some photos from 1950's or 60's of wheat farmers standing in their fields with the wheat ready to harvest, you will notice the wheat standing tall almost to the farmer's necks. But today, it barely reaches to the wheat farmer's knees - and is nothing more than mutant wheat! Even though technically it is not genetically modified, it is much worse suffering multiple hybridizations (back-crossing off-spring genes with parent genes) and many other unspeakable things. All this just to gain larger heads of grain. Plant hybrids like modern wheat can be far more unhealthy to eat than even genetically modified foods! The reason being that plant hybrids can escape the testing that genetically modified foods are generally subject to.
“Lose the wheat, lose the weight, and find your path back to health." This is a favourite quote of William Davis MD, author of the New York Times bestseller book “Wheat Belly” and a must read for anyone serious about gaining back their health or losing weight rapidly.
Other quotes worth pondering over from William Davis in this book are…
Pg30 …thus, "modern wheat, despite all the genetic alternations to modify hundreds, if not thousands of its genetically determined characteristics (from hybridization 50 years ago predating GMO foods), has made its way into the worldwide food supply without even a question surrounding its suitability for human consumption…because hybridization (unlike genetically modified foods) never required any documentation of animal or human testing.”
Pg 69 “The initial pace of weight loss from eliminating wheat from the diet can be quite shocking (sometimes as much as 4 or 5kg in 14 days) equalling what you might achieve from an outright fast!"
Pg 71 “Gluten is the culprit underlying inflammatory damage to the intestinal tract in celiac disease. It is found in wheat…as well as in other gluten containing grains such as barley, rye, spelt, triticale, kamut, and perhaps oats.”
Pg 72 “Even gluten-free foods such as corn starch, rice starch, potato starch, or tapioca starch…still trigger the glucose-insulin response that causes you to gain weight. These starches are among the few foods that increase blood sugar levels even more than wheat products!”
Pg 76 “When we eat wheat gluten, the lining of the small intestine, the delicate barrier separating incipient fecal matter (feces) from the rest of you – breaks down and can enter the bloodstream too.”
Pg 80 “Gluten damage to the intestinal lining uncovers muscle protein that triggers antibody formation.”
Pg 83 “…when various obnoxious compounds mistakenly gain entry into the bloodstream – one of the undesirable effects is auto-immunity i.e the body’s immune response is tricked into activation and attacks the normal organs such as the thyroid gland or joint tissue. This can lead to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or rheumatoid arthritis.”
Pg 39 Its not all about gluten - as if this protein/enzyme smorgasborg weren't enough. Food manufacturers have also turned to fungal enzymes such as cellulases, glucoamylases, xylanases, and B-xylosidases, to enhance leavening and texture in wheat products. Many bakers also add soy flour to their dough to enhance mixing and whiteness, introducing yet another collection of enzymes and proteins.
But modern-day dwarf wheat is not the only harmful grain in our western diet. One must also take into account other chemical factors that accompany wheat and other grains today such as...
... health reporter Katy Whelan states.... "Is Monsanto's Round-up herbicide the cause of gluten intolerance in wheat? Glyphosate (Round-up) is used not only to kill weeds but to ripen (or dry-down) wheat just before harvest. Glyphosate inhibits certain enzymes in the wheat and is so poisonous to the liver."
From Sayer Ji at Green Med Info: "Glyphosate is used not only on Roundup Ready crops, but also on glyphosate-sensitive sugar cane and wheat shortly before harvest, when it acts as a dessicant. It’s also used as a dessicant on Roundup Ready sugar beets, canola, and cottonseed oil, among others." To read the full article by Sayer Ji click on the first button below...
An apt statement from Samsel & Seneff on this topic: "The Western diet is a delivery system for toxic chemicals used in industrial agriculture. It consists primarily of processed foods based on corn, wheat, soy and sugar, and they're consumed in high quantities. Chemical residues of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides like glyphosate contaminate the entire diet.
There is good reason why Russia, Tasmania, Mexico and Netherlands, has recently banned the sale of all Glyphosate-laced herbicides away from the general public for good. But (mainland) Australia and the US seem to be a bit slow and still sell and use glysophates in large quantities. To read the full article about this then click on the second button below...
