The colon can be compared to the insignificant toilet bowl in your house, and just as it can get blocked by using too much toilet paper, so can the colon get blocked. Only when our toilet stops working properly are we quickly reminded of its importance in the house.
Daily too, we expect our colon to continue to work flawlessly, but if we are throwing in material that has "blockage potential" into our mouth, a colon blockage is exactly what we should expect to happen too. If we are not having at least one good bowel movement a day, then it is safe to say we are clogged up or partially blocked at least. Thus, this is ever more reason to keep our colons clean, unclogged - and our immune system working properly. And remember: each one of us has our own internal doctor - our immune system!
We should not rely on our GP or doctor to give us back our health. Most GP's today have become no more than mere prescription-writers for the giant pharmaceutical companies; peddling tablets or medicines for which ever company offers them the best incentives to push their brand. And doctors (in the US especially) are not required to take any courses in nutrition during their studies, but instead concentrate on human anatomy, medicines ans surgeries. The word doctor actually means 'teacher' so we should expect our doctor to be teaching us good health and hygiene instead of mainly medicating us. But they might lose their job if they did that today. Even the 'father or modern medicine, Hippocrates' once said "Let food be your medicine - and medicine be your food" and physicians still today are required to take the Hippocratic oath to "do no harm" but sometimes prescribing too much medicines do exactly that. If you can ever find an holistic doctor that has furthered their medical studies with studies in natural health and nutrition, they are worth their weight in gold and usually have a waiting list of several months for a doctors appointment. Why is that? Because they achieve results for their patients and word of mouth is their best form of advertising!
Some medical (only) specialist doctors or surgeons are generally good at such things as reconstructive surgery for burn victims, or repairing broken bones. But most other minor internal health problems we should have a go firstly at...doing-it-ourselves before it leads into bigger health problems! This is called preventative health care. After all, each one of us has our own God-given internal doctor inside of us (our immune system) that is much more qualified for the job - if we just allow it to be activated every day by staying away from hard-to-digest foods and immune system depleting chemical medications.
And please don't believe those who falsely claim that people in the Western countries are living longer due to improvements in modern medicine - the data is 'skewed' due to falling birth rates in Western countries (perhaps due to increased infertility) so the older population growth rate seems artificially higher. Some elderly may be living to somewhat longer ages, but it is the quality of life that matters, not being dependent on a machine for life support or being dependent on synthetic medicines to cope. Inorganic chemicals are an assault to our immune system and only help mask the symptoms of illness, not heal the root cause of illness. We should be asking ourselves "Whatever happened to the grandmother or grandfather that was in our family tree (just one or two generations ago) that sometimes lived to 100 -110 years and was still walking around, working in their vegetable garden and admired by their family members as the grey-haired person with much wisdom...not with senile dementia! And these kind of people would just die painlessly one day in their sleep - often without ever taking any medication or visiting a hospital.
An interesting article appeared in The Examiner, Saturday, March 17, 2007 stating that "GPs 'pop more pills' than patients. SYDNEY - This article then goes on to say that... "Doctors pop more pills than their patients and they are writing the prescriptions themselves, a new survey has found. Australia's peak doctors' association says the results from the European study are a sad reflection of the health of physicians in general. The survey of 1700 Swiss doctors showed that 65 per cent take pharmaceutical drugs "frequently", compared with 43 per cent of the general population. Painkillers, tranquilisers, anti-depressants and anti-hypertension pills were the drugs most commonly swallowed, according to the 2002 Swiss Health Survey..." Australian Medical Association (AMA) president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal said he would expect the population of physicians in Switzerland to be more healthy than most. If that's not the case then it is a sad reflection on the health of the physicians in general."
Avid health researcher and international public speaker, Phillip Day, has this to say concerning a DIY approach for health "The only way to survive the current medical system - is by not needing it!" Phillip really gets tired of people that have ask him the standard cure-all question "What should I take for this or that condition or ailment?"...when in fact due to the overwhelming amount of unhealthy foods we are being sold by the big food companies today, these people should really be asking ..."what should I stop taking (or stop eating) instead!"
